DESIGN PROCESS + RESEARCH

We wanted to create an app that was an alternative to boxed and powdered meal kit plans with an emphasis on sustainability, locally sourced food and transparency.

With this in mind, another meal delivery service wasn’t going to work. Instead, we focused on the source of the ingredients and worked from there.

We began with looking at popular meal kit options, their pricing structures, what they offered and what their impact on the environment was as well as shipping, packaging, sourcing, human rights and labor conditions.

Next, we took a look at what barriers were most common for consumers those who were interested in meal kits and subscribed and those who were interested but who ultimately didn’t commit after a free trial.

We found that for the consumers that didn’t commit, the two biggest barriers to meal kit subscription were price and a concern for the companies food sustainability practices.

Out of this focus we came up with Bundle: a farm-share finder app that allows users to see what local farms have to offer and choose when they would like to pick up their orders.

Our design process began with defining who out of the meal-kit delivery demographic would be most likely to consider picking up their own food and how that factor would effect users in larger cities like New York- where delivery is very popular but access to farms is limited.

We did several early prototypes trying to find a simple and intuitive flow, eventually settling on one that breaks up the “account creation process” into two steps based on the feedback we received. The first one where general information such as name and general location are selected and the second one when the user is ready to confirm their order, where billing information is collected.
